Rheumatology


Rheumatology is a branch of medicine devoted to the diagnosis and therapy of rheumatic diseases. Clinicians who have undergone formal training in rheumatology are called rheumatologists.

Over long periods of time, the inflammation associated with rheumatoid arthritis can cause bone erosion and joint deformity.

While there's no cure for rheumatoid arthritis, physiotherapy and medication can help slow the disease's progression. Most cases can be managed with a class of medications called anti-rheumatic drugs (DMARDS), Oral JAK inhibitors & Biologicals

Factors, which increases the risk of RA

  • Sex : Woman are more likely then Men to develop RA, Female to Male ratio 3:1
  • Age : RA can strike at any age RA generally starts in women between the ages of 30 to 60
  • Family history : If a family member has RA, you may have an increased risk of the disease
  • Smoking : increases risk of developing RA
  • Environmental exposure
  • Obesity : Especially woman age 55 & younger- who are overweight has high risk of developing RA

RA Requires a medical diagnosis
